A Textbook Analysis: Learning Activities to Evaluate Students’ Competence within Performance

Abstract

This research aims to find out the whether the student’s handbook support the development of students’ speaking ability as a reflection of their competence. This research was conducted in qualitative design. The data are taken from 4 chapters of selected student’s handbook and were analyzed using content analysis.  The finding of this research shows that the book provides activities to check the students’ competence through performance. One chapter has the most number of activity which is 3 activities, one other chapter has 2 activities, and the other two chapter provide two activities. Based on the aforementioned results, this handbook proved to support the development of students’ speaking ability by providing activities to assess student’s competence through performance.
