STYLE ANALYSIS IN THE PAKDE TUKIRAN SHORT STORIES BY JOKO GESANG SANTOSO

Abstract

This study aims to describe the lexical, grammatical, rhetorical means, imagery and cohesion contained in the short story Pakde Tukiran by Joko Gesang Santoso. This research is a document research using a stylistic perspective. Data collection techniques using reading and note-taking techniques. The research data is on lexical, grammatical, rhetorical, imagery and cohesion aspects, while the research data source comes from the short story Pakde Tukiran. Test the validity of the data using triangulation theory. The data analysis technique used content analysis techniques. The results showed that the lexical elements found in Pakde Tukiran's short stories were the use of foreign languages, colloquial words, types of words (nouns, verbs, and adjectives), and the use of connotative and denotative meanings. The grammatical elements contained in Pakde Tukiran's short story are sentence complexity and sentence types. Sentence complexity includes: simple sentences and complex sentences. Sentence types consist of declarative sentences, imperative sentences, interrogative sentences, active sentences, and passive sentences. The rhetorical tools found in Pakde Tukiran's short story include exposition and stratagem of structure. The expressions found in the short story include: figure of speech hyperbole, personification, cynicism, and sarcasm. The structural tactics contained in Pakde Tukiran's short story are climax, anti-climax, repetition, asidenton, polysidenton, rhetorical questions, rhetorical retisense, and anaphora. The images found in Pakde Tukiran's short story are images of hearing, sight, motion, and touch. The cohesion contained in Pakde Tukiran's short story includes continuous cohesion and cross-referencing cohesion.
