A CRITICAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS OF RAFAEL ALUN TRISAMBODO'S GRATIFICATION AT TEMPO.CO NEWS: NORMAN FAIRCLOUGH MODEL

Abstract

This research aims to examine the construction of Tempo.co news reporting in one of its articles discusses the gratification committed by Rafael Alun Trisambodo, which can influence public perception or opinion. The method used to analyze the construction of Tempo.co's news reporting is Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis, which includes three stages: description (microstructural), interpretation (mesostructural), and explanation (macrostructural). The analysis conducted using Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis found that Tempo.co in the description stage (microstructural). co's article utilized language tools to convey information about the individuals and events involved, particularly emphasizing actions, cause and effect, and the credibility of the cited sources. In the interpretation stage (mesostructural), it was observed that, Tempo. co aims to share a mission with its parent company: to cultivate an environment where people feel safe to share their ideas and opinions to create a society. In the final stage, explanation (macrostructural), three levels were identified: situational, institutional, and social. At the situational level, Tempo.co indicates that corruption cases involving public officials in Indonesia are still a significant concern and can occur among any public officials. At the institutional level, Tempo.co coordinates with credible sources of information. Finally, at the social level, Tempo.co highlights that corruption harms many people, thus establishing a direct connection between Tempo.co and the media's role in society.
